The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Invites the Media to Attend the Texas Windstorm Insurance Conference this Friday to Stop Rate Increases for Coastal Communities

CORPUS CHRISTI-The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce invites the media to a Windstorm Insurance Conference on Friday, January 27th at the Omni Marina Hotel, Marina View Room, 707 North Shoreline from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Chamber has partnered with the Galveston Chamber of Commerce and the Coastal Windstorm Insurance Coalition to oppose premium increases for businesses and individuals in the Coastal Counties.
“The affordability of insurance is key to business on the coast and the impact of increases can be highly detrimental,” said Foster Edwards, President & CEO of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce. “In order to oppose such proposals, we are hosting the conference to discuss the overview of the problem and develop a plan or solution, which attendees can support.”
Attendees for the conference include Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, Chairman Todd Hunter, Representative Raul Torres, and Representative Connie Scott. In addition, Representative Craig Eiland from Galveston and Lee Otis “Otie” Zapp, Vice President for the Coastal Windstorm Insurance Coalition will be in attendance. Each representative will briefly speak about his or her concerns for such insurance increases, and suggest possible solutions regarding this issue. Mr. Zapp will discuss recent changes in the TWIA, its impact on the Coastal economy, and efforts to unite Coastal interests to accomplish the needs of the coast. At the end of the day, attendees will break into groups for strategy sessions.

Wednesday, December 14th-Chamber Member Holiday Open House at the Chamber’s NEW location in Heritage Park (1501 N. Chaparral). The Chamber is throwing an appreciation party for all members that includes live music, appetizers (courtesy of H-E-B), drinks (courtesy of Andrew’s Distributing) and enchanting carriage rides (courtesy of White Horse and Carriage Company).
Thursday, December 15th-Southside Business Council Meeting with guest speaker Ken Trevino, President/CEO of Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend. He will discuss new business services, local labor market information , and regional workforce information. The meeting will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend located at 5858 SPID.
